Be sure to have your soil tested. When it comes to fertilization, it all depends on what kind of grass you have. For best results, consider organic fertilizer. The best way to apply it is to start on the perimeter of your lawn, and work your way in to the middle.
2. Weed Whack Away
We all know that weeds are a huge pain to deal with, but unfortunately, everyone is going to have to deal with them one way or another. The sooner they sprout, the sooner you should attack them, This way, you are killing them before they germinate and cause more weed whacking work for yourself.
3. Get Your Mower Ready
To save some time, have your mower blade sharpened and ready to go for grass cutting season. You can sharpen it by taking a Dremel and using long, smooth strokes along the blade edge. Keep up with this method for every 8-12 hours of grass cutting to assure that your lawn is always getting that nice sharp cut.
4. Let It Grow
For great results, and less weeds, growing your grass to 3 to 3 1/2 inches will be in your best interest. Try to maintain this height all season to keep your lawn green and clean of weeds. This lets the grass blades shade out weed seeds, and it shades the soil, reducing evaporation.
Keep up with these simple steps and I'm sure your grass will be looking greener than ever before!
It’s a common mistake. You wipe down your counters after washing the dishes to complete your kitchen cleaning in one fell swoop. It seems like a simple enough solution, but dish soap isn’t intended for cleaning stone and as a result, over time this solution will actually reduce the luminous shine that you enjoyed when your counters were first installed.
For the best results, you need to look for the products that have been developed for this purpose. Granite, while resistant to scratches should be exposed to a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser. Stone care products are designed to address the specific needs of granite and other stone countertop materials. These specially designed cleaners address soap scum, hard water residue, as well as any dirt or grime from regular use.
For a brilliant shine, it is essential that your granite started from a polished state at installation. If you have bought a home in Edmonton with granite fixtures, the previous owner may have chosen a different finish. A honed counter, rather than polished, presents with a muted matte finish and no amount of scrubbing with any type of cleaner can produce the glimmering, reflective result that you desire. If this is the case, you may need to hire a professional to restore and re-polish the surface to its desired state.
Be cautious of home-made cleansers. The internet is full of do-it-yourself cleaning solutions for granite, but you should be very cautious about implementing any of these solutions as an improper cleaner could damage your finish and compromise any warranties on your granite product.
Of course, the best defense to preserve the shine of your granite surfaces is to ensure regular attention and maintenance. In the case of liquid spills or sticky messes which may seep through the seal and stain your countertops, the best approach is to immediately wipe up these spills when they occur and don’t allow them to sit unattended for prolonged periods of time. Before you go to work with your granite cleanser, ensure to clear the counters of any debris or crumbs with a wet cloth.
As a general rule, be aware to use cleaners that are pH balanced and are free of any acidic chemicals. Avoid the use of vinegar, ammonia or lemon cleaners on your granite surfaces. These three cleaners are considered to be very acidic and can be harmful to the finish of your granite countertop. Once washed, be sure to run your hand across the surface to feel a consistent smooth texture as some spills may be disguised visibly on the surface and may only be detected by touch. After washing, be sure to dry your counters with a separate dry cloth to restore their lustre.

Whether you are renovating your home, building a new home, or redesigning a space, it is an investment that involves time, money, and effort. Part of your investment should include an Interior Designer. Interior Designers serve different purposes and services for different clients and can be involved as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.
1. The Big Picture
An Interior Designer can see the whole picture and grand scheme of your wishes and wants and can offer objective advice. Interior Designers will offer suggestions and advice based on not only your wish lists but practicality as well. In the end, the decisions are up you, however you can get to those decisions quickly and easily with the right tools and information.
2. Save Your Money
Believe it or not, an Interior Designer can save you money! I know this probably sounds silly – How can I be saving money when I am paying an Interior Designer? It is true! Interior Designers can help you avoid costly mistakes that saves you money and increases the value of your home. Interior Designers have trusted industry contacts too. For you, this means good work at a fair price (or even contractor pricing).
3. Personal Assessments & Consultations
An Interior Designer can give you a personal assessment regarding your home and your personal taste. Assessments & Consultations can also give you ideas on where to save money by reusing and repurposing what you already have and have it fit in with your personal style.
4. Budgeting & Planning
An Interior Designer can help keep you on track and on budget. A designer knows good resources for the products going into your home and how (and what) little things add up quickly. This will save your endless hours of researching, browsing, and scratching your head in frustration. A designer can also help prepare you for what to expect when redesigning or renovating a space and how to handle it.
An Interior Designer is a great liaison between your architect, builder, or contractor. A designer can address design features that have been potentially missed in the overall plan. This is important in managing time and money. Interior Designers are trained to think of things that many overlook and constantly have ideas and checklists running through their heads. Another great thing and tip about Interior Designers – they are skilled in both the aesthetics and construction/mechanical features of a home. Don’t be afraid to ask your designer for advice or clarification when needed.
6. Wow Factor
An Interior Designer can help you get that “umpf” that you’ve been waiting for. Designers are trained to view spaces and how (and where) the eye moves throughout a space. This gives you the edge and feature that really makes a room pop!
Interior Designers are a fantastic asset and investment for your home. Think you should hire a designer? I sure do! Feel free to contact myself if you have any further questions!
